phase 5_Olivia Ramos_Ideograms

The subway station is the event of most exposure; open to anyone who pays fare, without identification. Higher degrees of separation, direction, and visual deflection are increasingly necessary as one moves away from the station through the site and into their bus. In the direction of the busses, visitors, passengers, and employees find gradual striation of program, and increasing gradients of enclosure and view. From the busses to the subway, visitors, employees, and ex-prisoners have a clear understanding of the location of subway station.

phase 4_OliviaRamos_program

Massive-pliant-network – clearly revealing possibilities of connections and transition, (subway to bus and vice versa), a visual association to the nearest destination; a vertical shift resulting in a simultaneous exposure and of program and the vehicle.

Phase5_Rychiee_Program

This image suggests some variation in scale with respect to the chosen piece, however, I need to strategize in order to integrate ideas of structure and network as suggested by the phase four image below.

Phase4_Rychiee_Plan

This study explores variation in density across a terrain. The fluctuations suggest diverse intensities of transparency to imply relevent programmatic adjacencies.

Phase 5_Seth_Program Plan Section

This study has lead to concept of the reactionary line. The program is constructed within a linear framework that corresponds to two primary directional movements – one for visitors to Rikers, one for travelers to La Guardia. Yet within these lines becomes a complex navigational network that is completely dependent on the individual’s reaction to spatial, social, and perceptual conditions.

Phase5_Danny_DataScape

The Queue Times are the longest when the dashed lines are the most densely congested. The que times have been averaged for all the dayse of the week, but as you can see, the trend is relatively consistent.

Phase4_Seth_Site Program Strategy

In the material/programmatic study my aim is to explore a relationship between hot wax and cold water that attempts to produce methods of movement and formation that are not predetermined by physical regulators, but rather are reactionary to circumstantial qualities. The wax’s trajectory into the water describes a system of movements that are dependent on variables rather than constructs.

Phase3_Danny_MassiveResilientNetwork

-The second image uses a close up shot of the side of the piece that is repeated and scaled down to appear as if it were receding in space. is articulated with an aggregation of smaller images of the side of the piece that wrap around the space. Shading is added to make the depth more legible.

-The top image uses a similar photograph to begin with but I mimicked the string in the original model and added cross bracing to show structure.

-The bottom image is a massing of the front of the piece that is skewed to look like it is at an angle from the picture plane. The pieces were aggregated in such a way as to imply a distortion near the floor due to gravity. The floor then begins to interact with the walls reflectively.

Phase2_SethMcDowell_Pliant/Swarm/Filter

The pliant/swarm/filterscape is an environment of unplanned growth> or accumulation of an organism whose behavior represents several> stages of malleability. This growth slowly emerges through the> framework and then attempts to obstruct accessibility to a> massive/binding/cyclescape.

Phase 2_Ben_MassiveBindingCycle

Massive Cycle Binding Translucent Resilient Network – Periodic episodes of solid swell within the voids of the network, stressing its ligaments and stretching its joints to arrive at an expanded geometry.
